IT’S SHOWTIME!!
Here are the final details of our Showcase coming up this weekend!
Saturday and Sunday, December 9th & 10th
Both shows at 3:00 PM
Spacing rehearsal:
We will have a spacing rehearsal this Saturday before the show. There is NO spacing rehearsal on Sunday. Here are the times I’ll need your dancer at the theater on Saturday:
9:30-11- Level 4
10:30-11:00- junior and senior comp
11:00-12:00- level 3
12:00- 1:00- level 2
1:00- 2:00- level 1
2:00-2:30- baby and pre levels
Please come in regular dance clothes for these rehearsals. If you are in a mixed level class, come to your level rehearsal 20 minutes early.
Arrival times to the theater:
Please arrive at the theater with hair and makeup done at 2:00. Touchups can be done at the theater. Put your first show costume on around 2:30. The show order will be posted at the studio this week.
Warmup:
There will be a warmup class for levels 2-4 in the foyer of the auditorium from 1:00-2:00 on both Saturday and Sunday. Please wear regular dance clothes for warm up. Have your hair and most of your makeup done. You will have plenty of time to do touch ups and get into costume.
Costumes:
Costumes will go home with dancers the first week of December to those that have an account balance of zero. Once balances are paid in full, costumes can go home. Please go through all of your costumes and make sure all of the parts and pieces are there. You can see what each costume looks like, including accessories (if there are any) in the parent portal under “costumes”. Dancers should wear tan tights (footed) with each costume and the appropriate footwear. For dancers with multiple changes, it is recommended (not required) to wear a nude leo for changing. If you would like one, let me know and I have them for sale at the studio. They are $20. Once you get your costumes home, if they are rumpled, I suggest using a steamer on them. Don’t put them in the dryer! Once your dancer is in their costume there should be no eating, drinking (besides water) or putting make up on. Please only bring water to the performance.
Makeup
Recital Makeup: The purpose of stage makeup is to give “life” to your child’s face on stage. The bright stage lights will wash all the color out of the face. The makeup needs to be applied heavier than everyday- wear.
Here are some tips for applying stage makeup:
v Apply foundation liquid foundation to the skin. Add a rosy blush to the apples of the cheeks. Avoid the tanner tones of blush.
v Put a neutral-colored eye shadow such as tan on each eyelid. Add a darker color eye shadow such as cocoa to the space in between. Blend both colors. Apply brown or black eyeliner to both the top and bottom eyelids. Extend the eyeliner about a 1/2 inch beyond the outer corner of each eye. This helps the eyes appear larger. Apply two coats of black mascara after applying eye shadow and eyeliner.
v Apply a long wear lipstick. Mauves and pinks look nice on the younger girls. The older girls can wear a bolder color like red, I they like.
Hair
Each dancer should have their hair in a proper ballet bun secure with hair net and Bobby pins. Please don’t use those foam bun makers. They don’t stay securely. I’ve seen them fly across the stage before!
Your dancer’s hair must be in a secure bun with bobby pins and a hair net for ballet. Please do not have the hair in any other hair style. Here’s how to make a bun:
Start with damp hair. Make an extremely slicked- back ponytail at the crown of the head. Add gel to hair to make sure there are no “whispies”. The light from the stage with create a glow around your child’s head if there are stray hairs. Split the ponytail into 2 halves. Twist the hair in one of the halves and then wrap that half around the ponytail holder, adding bobby pins as you go. Twist the hair in the other half and wrap the hair in the opposite direction of the first half. Wrap the entire bun in a hair net and fasten with bobby pins. Spray the entire head with hair spray.
